What are cold sore / sores?

Cold sores are a symptom of the herpes simplex virus of which there are two types- Herpes simplex 1 (cold sores) and Herpes simplex 2 (genital herpes) . Once contracted, this virus remains hidden in our bodies in a dormant state until it's triggered to reactivate and cause a cold sore / sores.

Cold sore /sores treatment can be achieved naturally without using harsh chemicals.

The viral infection normally shows when you are over-tired, run down or stressed, or may be precipitated by sunburn, menses, food allergies, drugs, certain foods. Can you relate?

What are the symptoms?

It is often pre-empted with an itchy and warm sensation on the lips. A blister may appear and further develop into a full-blown unsightly spot (just in time for that important occasion).

Do you want a natural cold sore / sores remedy with essential oils?

  • Bergamot oil helps to tame the activity due to its antiviral action, particularly if you apply it at the first sign of an eruption.
  • Melissa 3% oil also acts as an antiviral agent for genital herpes and fights the viral infection when dabbed on neat to affected area. As the Melissa is already diluted in Jojoba oil, it makes it a bit friendlier to the skin. If you are more sensitive than most, you can always dilute the Melissa oil further.

How do you use these essential oils on cold sores?

Dab on neat using a clean cotton bud each time 3-4 times daily. If using Bergamot don't spend a lot of time in the sun while you've got this oil on, as it may cause the skin to become sensitive to sunlight (ultra-violet exposure).
