Many of the
medicines we use today are chemical-based and as a result there
is a growing consumer demand for effective, safe and natural remedies.
Plant oils and
extracts have been used successfully to treat a wide variety of
ailments for thousands of years, yet it is only recently that orthodox
western medicine has begun to undertake scientific research to confirm,
in their terms, the effectiveness of such natural products.
Sunspirit’s
oils have been used in numerous clinical trials with results supporting
the notion that therapeutic grade (highest quality) plant essential
oils and extracts have a significant role to play as natural pharmaceuticals.
LEMONGRASS
- THE GERM KILLER
The Department
of Microbiology at the University of Western Australia conducted
a study to test the
antimicrobial
activity of a large number of Sunspirit’s essential oils and plant
extracts, using directly comparable methods.
The study aimed
to generate information about oils for which little scientific data
existed. A total of 52 plant oils and extracts were investigated
for activity against ten different bacteria and fungi using an agar
dilution method.
The study (published
in the Journal of Applied Microbiology) found that lemongrass,
oregano and bay inhibited all organisms at concentrations of <2.0%
(v/v). Variable results were recorded for the remaining oils, including
Tea Tree.
As the University
of Western Australia’s comprehensive study showed, Lemongrass
is the number one germ killer.
